{"id":16610,"date":"2017-06-15T11:30:51","date_gmt":"2017-06-15T11:30:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.heartinternet.uk\/blog\/?p=16610"},"modified":"2017-06-15T11:30:51","modified_gmt":"2017-06-15T11:30:51","slug":"website-of-the-month-may-2017-developing-the-young-workforce","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.heartinternet.uk\/blog\/website-of-the-month-may-2017-developing-the-young-workforce\/","title":{"rendered":"Website of the Month May 2017 &#8211; Developing the Young Workforce!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We&#8217;re excited to announce our Website of the Month winner for May 2017 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/dywda.co.uk\/\" target=_blank\">Developing the Young Workforce Dundee &amp; Angus<\/a>!<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.heartinternet.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/dywda-1.jpg\" alt=\"The front page of the Developing the Young Workforce Dundee &amp; Angus website\" width=\"650\" height=\"350\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-16615\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Providing information for young people to find work experience and apprenticeships, their website has distinctive branded visuals to draw the reader in, as well as a mobile-responsive interface to frame its clear calls-to-action and on-page content.<\/p>\n<p>We sat down with Richard Longmuir, the designer for DYWDA, and asked him a few questions about the site and the design process.<\/p>\n<p><em>What is DYWDA and what does the website do?<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Developing the Young Workforce Dundee &amp; Angus (DYWDA) is a place where students can find information on how to gain valuable work experience and modern apprenticeships.<\/p>\n<p>It also allows teachers and employers to find out how they can get involved in their local communities and collaborate to improve their future workforce.<\/p>\n<p><em>How does the site support and drive the project&#8217;s goals?<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The website provides a simple solution for young people, educators, and employers &#8211; using illustrations to enforce the main benefits of DYWDA while driving them to get involved with the project.  We&#8217;ve made it simple and easy to use.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.heartinternet.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/dywda-2.jpg\" alt=\"A page explaining what DYWDA does for young people\" width=\"650\" height=\"275\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-16617\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>What would you say the website&#8217;s personality is?<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The website is designed to be interesting for young people, keeping them involved and informed at the same time.  It&#8217;s welcoming and fun whilst keeping a professional theme throughout.<\/p>\n<p><em>When you designed the website, did you design with the customer in mind or did you have a fixed idea on how you wanted to portray your brand online?<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The website was designed with the end user in mind.  We used illustrations and animations to create an interesting and interactive environment for students using the site.<\/p>\n<p><em>What&#8217;s your favourite thing about the website?<\/em><\/p>\n<p>I really like how it reflects the personalities of the DYW staff, with the same fun and quirkiness of the staff.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.heartinternet.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/dywda-3.jpg\" alt=\"A case study on the DYWDA website focusing on Women in Science Week\" width=\"650\" height=\"350\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-16612\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>What do you think makes this site different from your competitors?<\/em><\/p>\n<p>A lot of the other DYW sites are boring and un-engaging.  DYW Dundee &amp; Angus wanted to be different &#8211; appealing to young people while keeping all the important information for employers too.<\/p>\n<p><em>Do you have any future plans for the site?<\/em><\/p>\n<p>There are plans in the future to have a job section where employers can upload their jobs and students can apply for them.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.heartinternet.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/dywda-4.jpg\" alt=\"Page explaining why people should use DYWDA\" width=\"650\" height=\"375\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-16614\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Thanks, Richard!
