What is a Nominet Tag or IPSTAG and how do I change it for my domain name?

Nominet, the UK naming authority, has attached a tag to every .uk domain name that keeps track of where the domain name is hosted.

This is called the Nominet Tag or the IPSTAG. IPSTAGs are always in capital letters and consist of a string of alphanumeric characters without spaces, such as EXTEND or HEARTINTERNET, our IPSTAGs.

If you are transferring your domain to another host, you need to change the Nominet IPSTAG. If an incorrect IPSTAG is entered, you may lose control of your domain.  Please make certain you are entering the correct IPSTAG when you change it.

To change your IPSTAG:

  1. Log into your Domain Control Panel
  2. Click ‘Change Nominet Tag’
  3. Confirm that you want to change the Nominet tag
  4. Enter in the new tag
  5. Click ‘Change Nominet Tag’
  6. Your IPSTAG will be changed
