How do I set up additional FTP accounts for my site?

Additional FTP accounts are commonly used to give other people access to the files within a web site, whether to build sites, upload files, or download files.  You can also specify which subdirectory they have access to, protecting your other files while giving them the room they need to work.

If your account allows for multiple FTP accounts, you can easily set them up through your eXtend Control Panel.

To set up an additional FTP account:

  1. Log into your eXtend Control Panel
  2. Click ‘Additional FTP Accounts’
  3. Enter in the username you want them to use
  4. Enter in the subdirectory you want them to have access to
  5. Click ‘Create’
  6. The FTP account is now under ‘Modify an FTP Account’

To see the password for the FTP account, hover over the asterisked word in the ‘Password’ column.

Because of our FTP security policy, you will need to unlock FTP access for this account before other people can use it. You can unlock for a certain amount of time, or unlock for a specific IP address.  Your users can also unlock their FTP access by logging into the eXtend Control Panel with their FTP login details.

We also allow only three concurrent connections at any one time through one FTP account. If you have more than one person using a single FTP account, consider creating additional accounts.
