Hotscot

Scotland based creative agency with roots in the Highlands

“…the development of online channels is offering a lifeline to businesses facing challenging conditions…”

Customer since: 2007

Hotscot is the story of one Highland hotel owner’s website that snowballed into one of Scotland’s leading digital creative agencies. Having experienced tremendous success with a website he built for his own hotel (Hotel Scotland, which later became Hotscot), Robert Hawkes began receiving offers from other hoteliers to build websites for them.

Now, with over 350 customers and offices in Fort William, Inverness and Stirling, Hotscot produces high quality bespoke websites with customised functionality, tailored to clients’ business needs.

Remaining true to its roots, Hotscot still specialises in building websites for the travel and tourism industry, having built websites for Nevis Range, Glenmore Lodge, the Green Tourism Business Scheme and the Scottish Avalanche Information Service. The company has however, leant itself to other sectors and has developed a wide customer base.

Hotscot and Heart Internet

After trying other reseller hosting providers, Hotscot were recommended to Heart Internet by a fellow web design company in 2009, and they haven’t looked back since. Commercial director and founder of Hotscot, Robert Hawkes said: “We quickly came to appreciate the fully featured and easy to use reseller control panel and the reliability of the service provided. Not long after starting to work with Heart Internet we made the decision to use WordPress as our content management system of choice and have found the one-click install facility saves us a huge amount of time.”

Hotscot also make use of Heart Internet’s email hosting platform, a service which Robert sees as integral to the service that Hotscot provide: “Worthy of mention is their email platform which seems to be very stable and reliable, with the dependence on email communications, the email service is as important to our clients as the hosting of the website.”

Customer Service

Hotscot have been particularly impressed with the Heart Internet customer service, Robert said: “One particular aspect of Heart Internet deserves special mention and that is their customer support which is second to none. We were a bit concerned initially that support was only by email and there was no telephone option. These fears were quickly allayed once we found out how good the service was!"

“Since we have been with Heart Internet, their support service has never failed to deal with any issues we have raised and in most cases have given a resolution very quickly, including some fairly high level and complex problems.”

Robert also finds the Heart Internet blog useful, and keeps tabs on it for any advice: “We find their blog gives us some really good tips to keep up to date with industry developments with hints and tips galore.”

Robert sees Heart Internet as an important partner in their business and would recommend them to anyone looking to resell web hosting: “We would have no hesitation in recommending Heart Internet to any digital agency looking for a reliable reseller partner for hosting. Pricing is very competitive which means it is possible to offer competitive pricing for very high service levels.”

The future

Robert sees recurring revenue as a solid foundation for the future, and says Hotscot will continue to strive for quality to keep their customers happy: “The trends we are seeing in the development of our business is far more repeat business from established larger clients, particularly in the current business climate where the development of online channels is offering a lifeline to businesses facing challenging conditions in traditional marketplaces. This is good news for us as it requires far less effort in terms of sales and marketing but does mean that the quality of our services has to be exceptional in order to retain loyalty.”
