The big 10,000th tweet giveaway | Heart Internet Blog – Focusing on all aspects of the web

Recently we hit the huge milestone of posting our 10,000th tweet. Since we created our Twitter account back in 2009 (if you’re interested, this was our first ever tweet), we’ve always been focused on sharing interesting links, relating company news, and chatting to you about your projects and opinions rather than numbers. But this milestone is a number we care about, not least because we hit it in our tenth year. Those 10,000 tweets span an incredible amount of topics, emotions, and situations, and it’s strange to think how such a simple concept – 140 character messages, the web version of the classic text message – can be so powerful and far-reaching.

We’re part of the creative web, and it’s not only at the core of our business but something all our staff take a personal interest in. Where most companies focus on the number of followers they have and endless other stats, we’ve never believed that social media should be about that for us. Twitter in particular is one of the most personal communication channels, and we’d much rather be discussing your genius cat-themed CAPTCHA, your Sculpt framework creations, your Sunday Times bestseller or your generally awesome design skills, than condensing you and your achievements into numerals in a spreadsheet.

With that said, numbers have their place. But they need to be the right numbers, which is why we’re running a contest to celebrate our tweet count rather than our follower count. We like to be different.
