Back for a 3rd year, we are looking for another designer to create a brand new magazine advert that showcases our market leading reseller hosting product. As well as being used in a national IT magazine, the winner will be given a 27” iMac, a 32GB iPod touch, a year’s free reseller hosting and a free domain name.
If you are going to enter, here are some tips to help you:
– You can choose to add the current £1 promotion to your design, but equally, it won’t affect your chances if you decide not to use it
– Don’t get hung up on the fact we have “heart” in our name (e.g. use images of a heart or heart beats)
– If you are a customer, think why you chose us in the first place, and then use that as the focus of the advert’s USP. Was it the price, the features, the customer support…?
– Take your time with the design, there are no prizes for being first to enter
– Two large glossy image based designs have won so far, that should tell you something!

The 2009 & 2010 winning entries

The final date for entries is 1/9/11, so you have plenty of time to weave your magic and design something special! We have had some great entries in the past couple of years, and we are looking forward to seeing what everyone comes up with this year. Good luck!

I would consider this crowdsourcing, although the prizes are definitely more substancial!

No its not, and the page you link to is not what we are trying to achieve. We have professional designers who create our normal magazine adverts and that will not change. Also, we are not trying to create our new advert on the cheap, this is a competition for designers to showcase their talents and part of the prize is the advert being used in a magazine.
It is intended as a fun competition for designers to take part in and win some pretty great prizes.
@MIKE Chill Pill time 🙂
Great Comp H.IKeep it up. Me and my team enjoy taking part even though I’m the old git and my young designers are so much better then me we all have fun doing it
@ Mike, I think you need to actually read the post and details in full before getting all heated up.
This is a fun competition – for brand promotion yes!… but Heart is not a company who’s sole focus is to profit from artists.
Im not getting heated about it, just in my eyes I would consider this spec work but not on the same scale as someone getting a logo designed for £25 because whoever the winner is gets fantastic prizes. In my opinion these kind of prizes are what all spec work competitions should be like
Apologies again if it came across as heated!
No worries Mike 🙂
Sorry to disappoint but it is spec.
Spec = working on the speculation of getting a return. Only the designs used are paid for, the rest are not = spec.
Call it fun, call it whatever, but it’s spec.
Again, no it isn’t. I think the distinction between what we are doing and the what the contest sites do is we are not looking for someone to create our new magazine advert. We are asking people to design one for this competition. The winner will be used for one month as part of the prize, but then we revert back to our in-house designed advert.
Any news on this competition, it seams to have disappeared this year??
Daniel,
We’ve picked the winner and we just wanted to wait for the launch of our new VPS before showcasing him. It would have got lost amongst all the VPS related activities.
