What would you say to a client who asked you for a project or website in Flash?
We asked you on Twitter, and got a bunch of amusing and creative responses back…strangely enough none of them were enthusiastic yeses ๐
Does Flash still have its place? Would you walk away from a client who asked for Flash or try and steer them down a different route? We’re interested in hearing your thoughts, so take a look at the tweets we received below and add your own opinion in the comments.
@HeartInternet Ah Ahh! โ Darren Jamieson (@MisterDaz) November 4, 2013
@HeartInternet I read that as” if a client asked you to flash” that will teach me to speed read! Had a whole different answer in mind :-p โ Dom Vitzthum (@domvitz) November 4, 2013
@HeartInternet Punch them in the face and walk away ^.^ โ Jonjoe Whitfield (@TheDigitalDinlo) November 4, 2013
@HeartInternet goodbye? ๐ โ Robert Iles (@TonksMeow) November 4, 2013
@HeartInternet I would ask them why, and then brace myself…. โ Stuart Sillitoe (@57u) November 4, 2013
@HeartInternet Iโd say several words. They would all be short and Anglo-Saxon. โ James Ogilvie (@logicelf) November 4, 2013
@HeartInternet I prefer bicarb and vinegar for the floors. Oh, wait I see what you mean… in that case ask them why they want 1990s tech. โ Jon ‘Jim’ll’ Knight (@GreenJimll) November 4, 2013
@HeartInternet ok, but you’re not gonna like it! โ Andrew Palmer (@arniepalmer) November 4, 2013
@HeartInternet Iโd ask if they were a history teacher looking for course material. โ Liam Rickerby (@LiamRickerby) November 4, 2013

Flash????? Errrrm, no chance. I’ve much better things, as well as much more up to date tech to use with my time. The sooner Flash has it’s coffin lid nailed well and truly down, the better.
Flash & Flex are not dead yet, MacroMedia had it all and Adobe killed it.
Not very amusing, but I would just ask the “Why?” question even before opening the diatribe about why it’s not a good idea. Just telling people they’re stupid isn’t going to be great unless you’re really looking to bolster the impression of web designers as being high and mighty above all lower beings.
I would definitely offer an alternative right from the start, explaining the pros and cons – if they insisted then I would decline the offer
I don’t think Adobe killed Flash, Apple did, by refusing to support it on iOS devices. I guess that was Apple’s intention. Does it not annoy people that a company like Apple has this power? Imagine how useful Flash could be if it were supported on all browsers and all mobile devices? For apps as well as websites?
Incidentally, I’m not some anti-Apple evangelist, in fact I’m currently on my fourth iPhone. I do hate their business practices and how much money they make out of me though, as well as the fact that most of their users hate Microsoft for making so much money whilst loving Apple!
If they asked me for Flash………..I would say “I am sure I have a long coat in the wardrobe”
I wonder if we will ever see the return of mainstream flash once search engines can better interpret the content, and cross-platform differences are leveled out?
