Last year we headed down to Derby Royal Infirmary to sell homemade cakes for Breakthrough Breast Cancer. This time around, we decided to up our efforts even more by hosting a big bakeoff in the office and supporting two charities – Breakthrough Breast Cancer and Movember.
(We could post pictures of moustaches…but cakes are much better).
The amount of baking (and eating!) that took place over two days was pretty incredible. We have quite a few keen bakers in the office, and every base was covered – from Smarties brownie to vegan apple spiced cake. Three people made tiffin/rocky road, which is a particular office favourite and always disappears first!
We also had a pick and mix sweet bar and a cupcake bar where you could frost and finish your own cupcake.
This resulted in everything from cakes reminiscent of an excited five year old at a birthday party to icing masterpieces that Mary Berry would be proud of.
We’re still raising money until the end of the week so the total raised hasn’t been totted up yet, but we added a bit of interest to the mix by creating donation boxes with questions. To donate, people had to answer one of the following questions: Bacon or chocolate? Android or iPhone? Chrome or Firefox? Chrome vs. Firefox was the most competitive, and became the source of quite a lot of debate (and judgement. And disgust). Several people also asked where Internet Explorer was (a company first, if not a world first). We can’t wait to see which comes out on top in each instance; Bacon is a clear winner against Chocolate, but Android and iPhone seem to be pretty neck-and-neck.
