Quick last-minute Easter hacks for your website | Heart Internet Blog – Focusing on all aspects of the web

If you’ve been so busy you haven’t had a chance to celebrate Easter on your website, here are some tricks and tips for simple, attractive changes you can make in just five minutes.

Easter egg hunt

Thought about implementing an Easter egg hunt on your website but written it off as too much work? Using EasterWebs you simply drag and drop options to create your hunt, or you can use the pre-created variants to save even more time.

Konami Easter egg WordPress plugin

This free WordPress plugin allows you to put a hidden message on your website, which is activated via a password or code. The ‘Konami’ comes from the fact that the default code is the Konami cheat code, but you can change it to whatever you like.

It’s a great base for a competition or simply to hide a discount code or fun Easter message. Don’t have a WordPress website? The original JS version is here.

Spring flowers font

Coupled with a little-used serif or a strong slab serif (check out Fresh Free Fonts for 2015 and 20 of the best new free fonts for designers for more free downloads), Kalocsai Flowers is a great free font to add a sense of spring to your designs.

Meerkat

The trusty meerkat is a disturber that traditionally appears at the bottom of website pages. Simply set it up with an Easter or spring themed image and message (combine with a discount code, subscription request or free download for additional benefits), and you’re ready to go.

Because the focus is on saving time, most of the following suggestions have a small cost (under £5), but there’s no reason why you couldn’t use them as inspiration for your own work if you have more time to play with.

Easter images

One thing we love about Creative Market is that it has thousands of high-quality fresh resources that you don’t see on every website. We just did a quick search for ‘easter’ in the ‘Graphics’ section, but you can search for more specific terms to suit your needs and dig up some real hidden gems in the process.

Some of our favourites are:

Easter egg hunt

If you want to create an Easter egg hunt for your website with the ability to control every last element, try this $7 WordPress solution from CodeCanyon.

Easter egg photography

If you’re not the best photographer, you can buy some great stock images for pennies from Photodune. They are particularly good for homepage sliders, large blog post headers, and competitions.

We did a quick search for ‘chocolate egg’, but again there are plenty of other great options available. Just remember to pick the smallest image size you need for your project in order to reduce the cost.

Go beyond your website

Make your time and/or money go further by taking your imagery beyond your website and making it work harder. Send a quick email wishing your customers a happy Easter, and include a special offer or discount code for maximum impact. Don’t forget to post on social media too, especially if you’re running an Easter egg hunt or similar contest.
