We had so many high-quality websites to choose from – in terms of design, content and/or originality – that it was incredibly hard to pick just six for the finals last month. As a result the competition was tougher than ever!

There were plenty of tweets, shares and blog posts zooming around in a battle to win, but in the end there could only be one winner…

Mad About Pies!

Mad About Pies is an online pie shop offering an impressive range of tasty-looking pies. With a Gourmet Pie of the Month and plenty of information to support the pies, we’re looking forward to catching up with Phil the Pie Man later on in the month to find out more about his website and the business behind it.

Special mention goes to our second and third place winners, Property for Sale in Portugal and By Emily Kate respectively. All our finalists have fantastic websites we’re proud to host.

Nominations for January’s contest are now open!

Got a website hosted with Heart Internet? Then you can enter it (or a client’s site) for our next Website of the Month competition. Simply email the URL(s) to wotm[at]heartinternet.uk before midnight on the 9th January.

Please note that if you’ve submitted your website before and you didn’t make it to the final six, your website will be put forward into the nominations pool automatically so there’s no need to email us again – we still have your entry.

Check out the terms and conditions or find out more about the prizes.

Hmm…. not to sure about this.

Don’t think it’s too fair to mark that pie site as number 1 compared to the others.

The pie site is just a basic site with little functions. Those other two are proper sites with lots of complex areas and impressive features (i.e look at the property sites search functionality – it’s wonderfully crafted – now look at your number 1 site’s search functionality VERY limited!).

Another example would be the other two sites use an extensive amount of HTML5 and CSS3….. breaking boundary code / new code ….. where as your website of the month uses heavy images instead of nice CSS code etc (which is obviously the out of date / redundant way).

Therefore I’d be thinking….. why do old sites, using old code, and basic functions get put above the sites which push boundaries and use new code. Promote the future, not the past 😉

Just my opinion! Sorry if offended and sorry for the rant. But just thought I should drop in my two (un-educated) cents!

Hi Charlie, thanks for your comment. It’s all down to the people’s votes and ratings for the finalists, and Mad About Pies was the most popular. We try to encourage people to consider design, code, content and originality in their voting, not just code 🙂

Ahh… sorry. Was unaware it was a click to vote thing / case of just having a site with high traffic. Was thinking the judging was done a different way i.e judged by professionals in the industry. That would defo explain it though! Thanks for replying Jenni – take care.

Hi, wish I’d heard about this competition sooner. How can we apply for this year, as we’ve got a good selection of Magento eCommerce websites we’re particularly proud of?

  • Jenni says:

    Hi Steve,

All the details are here: https://www.heartinternet.uk/wotm/ (alternatively you can read more at the bottom of this blog post, which explains how you can enter for Jan). It’s a contest we hold every month and the only requirement is that they must be Heart Internet hosted sites (resellers/resold sites are fine with permission from the reseller/client).

    Hope that helps!
