Each month we run our ‘Website of the Month’ competition where our customers can submit their websites to be considered for our “Website of the month” award. This is a great way for our customers to showcase their websites, as well as an opportunity to promote their business.

Every month, we receive a wide variety of submissions before developing a shortlist of six websites that have really impressed us and then the final results are decided through public votes. Hosting this competition is always enjoyable and, in this post, we would like to give you our top tips on what we look for in a Website of the Month contestant.

Content is a very important factor when we are viewing submissions and there are a range of different features that we look for in the content that we review.

Layout

Having fantastic content is a key part of any amazing website, but, if the viewer finds it difficult to find the info they need or perform the actions that they want, then the overall standard of the site will suffer and some of its content might even get missed. Making the website’s content easy to digest and explore is central to providing a pleasant online experience for the viewer. This is why the sites that often interest us the most are the ones where it is obvious that the web designer has put a large amount of thought into the viewer’s journey and made a strong effort to make the site intuitive.

Design

Using design is one of the quickest ways to get across what the purpose of your website is, and this is why the use of design on a website is likely to make up the first impressions that a viewer has of the people behind it. So, for those all-important first impressions, design can be a vital tool.
