We know a lot of you have been asking for a detailed breakdown of what each file in HostPay does along with the various variables you can use. In response to these requests we have written some fantastic documentation which gives a really detailed look at what each file does.

Our resident HostPay gurus have been working on this for a few months now and it’s a meaty 55 pages so it should cover everything you need to know. We will keep this updated as and when we make changes to HostPay so it is always an up to date reference.

I think HostPay is probably the most involved part of the HI Reseller package. Excellent step forward, thanks.

  • Henry J says:

Fantastic work guys – I’ve just bumped into this amazing addition myself while fiddling about with my hostpay admin.

Oh the *days* of work this would have saved me and my team a few months ago….. :S

Us geeks like detail, and up until now I felt it was sorely missing from your Support (both team and database)

    Please keep ’em rolling 😀

  • Tony Carnell says:

I’ll echo that comment. Documentation like this is a real boon.

    Many thanks.

    Tony.

Thanks for the fantastic feedback, the HostPay chaps put a lot of effort in to this.

    Awesome.

What I would like to see are examples of what people have done, that would be simply a great asset!!!

Thanks for adding this breakdown, finally 🙂

    Gabi,

Glad you like the documentation, it is going down really well.

It will be tricky to give real life examples as a lot of our resellers like to keep Heart Internet behind the scenes (and that’s why we offer so many branding tools and features). If anyone is happy to step forward and share what they have done we would love to showcase it, but from past experience asking for testimonials, I wouldn’t expect too many.

    Finally, many many thanks guys.

I think, as can be at least interpreted from the responses on this post so far, this is/will be much appreciated by fellow resellers. A big slap in the face to those who, I have personally seen, crying how HostPay is the worst thing ever and that HI never bother listening to/acting on reseller feedback. Well done and the extra work this took i well apprecited.

    Two things:

    – I know some things are still missing from it (product_id i think for example) and some product properties (as can be read from statement “..Each product object has properties INCLUDING….” meaning not all are listed there). I understand it will take some time to list everything and perhaps some things HI want not to be made available to us perhaps for security purposes, I don’t know, but some things may be useful to developers.

(ie product_id could be used to return the product number, which could in turn be assigned in a span or hidden attriibute, allowing specific packages to be coloured or made to stand out against others…….or something along those lines anway lol)

    – Will/could this be added into either Hostpay or Reseller CC as a reference document and notification added when changes/updates are made?

Now I can actually get back to work designing/developing my template and finally launch my site…..been waiting too long!

PS- If I actually get time and can be bothered I will add a seperate directory on my HostPay site (or provide access to the recently released ‘staging’ version of my site) and list some real-world examples possibly with real output/images. Mainly for my own future reference, lol, but will serve as a resource for other HI resellers as I have no problem letting customers know I am with HI (my intended market is for full design/development/managed hosting packages for non tech-savvie end users who wouldnt know what to do with HI anyway)

I’m surprised people don’t think we act on feedback, I’d say the majority of the new features we launch (and we launch a lot!) are as a direct result of our customer’s input. We don’t reply to all of them granted, we get too many, but they are all 100% read and considered.

I’ll forward your first point on to the author of this section to look in to this. With regards to your second point, we have added it to the “Getting started” section of the RCC to download (https://customer.heartinternet.uk/manage/reseller-guide.cgi) and yes, it will be kept up to date as and when we make any changes to HostPay.

If you are happy to share your real world examples that would be great. Just let us know when it is up and running and we will make sure our HostPay users know about it.

    Keith,

You’re a legend, thank you very much. We’d like to see how you got on.

As you, we don’t have huge amounts of time to figure it all out 🙂

This will be very handy (HI documentation)

    Thanks,

    G.

  • Keith says:

    Hi Matt,

Yeah I have seen quite a few on different forums whining about it. I, however, have had a totally different experience as roughly 99% of my tickets are answered, and resolved, extremely promptly and efficiently. Also any feedback/suggestions I have put forward generally have been implemented (including this feature which, I’m sure you know, I have been asking for).

I’ll certainly let you know if/when the samples are ready, although please don’t hold your breath on it happening asI have a hell of alot on at the moment so at best it will be a feww months away lol.

    Thanks,

    Keith

  • Gabi says:

I’ve never had any issues with the ticketing system and in fact, have been shocked into how they have implemented some of my requests so quickly.

A happy customer here, without a doubt.

Would be very hard for me to move somewhere else.

I am having great rouble downloading the guide. I am interested in making more use of HostPay and this guide would be handy. All I seem to get is a blank document and after a while Adobe stops responding. Any ideas what may be wrong?

  • Jenni says:

    Hi Tracy,

Just retested it from this end and it opens straight away. Have you installed the latest update for Adobe Reader?

    Jenni

  • Tracy Care says:

Just tried it again – still not working – I am using Adobe Reader 9.1 – I will try it on my machine at work.

  • Tracy Care says:

    Hi Jenni,

I trid it on my machine at work with no problem. Not sure whats going on with mine!!!

Anyway thank you for your time and great service.

    Tracy

  • Jenni says:

Glad to hear you got it in the end Tracy!

    You’re very welcome 🙂

  • Keith Patton says:

Well I guess I will just forget about the ‘HostPay samples’…

I just came across the new HI Reseller Wiki !! Loving it, exactly what I was looking for. All strings, attributes, variables seem to be there (from what I have read so far). Even those that are for HI internal use only.

Things like https://wiki.heartinternet.uk/wiki/HostPay/Templates are gonna be a serious help to new and old resellers. Hope this gets added to (by both HI and us resellers too) as I can see this becoming a great repository for many different HostPay custom templates. All that is needed are some built / functioning / designed examples. Seriously good work guys. 🙂

  • Matti says:

I am looking for information on how to edit the content on the host pay generated PDF invoice, and have been through the PDF guide and wiki and can’t find any info on how this could be done. Can anyone point me to more info? Is this possible?

  • Matthew says:

You can edit the text contents of data fields e.g. company name, address, telephone number, tax number etc. and also supply your own logo that will be inserted. To do that go to ‘Global preferences‘ and scroll down to “Logo Filename and Email Address”.

However , you can’t currently configure the layout of the invoice. If this is something you’d like to see added (or if you have any other ideas) use our reseller feedback form, every suggestion is read my the directors and considered. I’d guess about 80% of every new feature we launch is based on feedback we get from this form.
