9 free sources of data & research for you to use and increase conversions | Heart Internet Blog – Focusing on all aspects of the web

Whenever you make a statement about your products or services, you will instantly increase your credibility and the likelihood of a conversion if you can back it up with 3rd party data. Commissioning original research costs thousands of pounds and just isn’t viable for the majority of website owners. However, thanks to the ever growing culture of giving things away for free on the internet, there are some great resources to help you find data you can use on your website.

https://www.google.co.uk/intl/en/landing/internetstats/: “This Google resource brings together the latest industry facts and insights. These have been collected from a number of third party sources covering a range of topics from macroscopic economic and media trends to how consumer behaviour and technology are changing over time.”

https://marketshare.hitslink.com: “Valuable insight into significant trends for internet usage.  These statistics include monthly information on key statistics such as browser trends (e.g. Internet Explorer vs. Firefox market share), search engine referral data (e.g. Yahoo vs. MSN vs. Google traffic market share) and operating system share (Windows vs. Mac vs. Linux market share or even the iPhone market share vs. Windows Mobile).”

https://litmus.com/resources/email-client-stats: “This report shows the current state of the email client market. It serves as the largest ever study of its kind, with data from almost 250 million email recipients.”

https://mailchimp.com/resources/research/: “Data scanned from over 570 million emails delivered by our system (where campaign tracking was activated, and where users actually reported their industry) and calculated average open rates, average click rates, average soft bounces, average hard bounces, and average abuse complaint rate by industry.”

https://www.hitwise.com/uk/resources/reports-and-webinars: “Download a range of Hitwise White Papers and reports that feature current online industry and marketing trends.”

https://www.iabuk.net/internetmarketingresearch (Mix of free and members only reports): “Get to know the behaviour of the online audience, access the latest ad spend figures, find details on brand building and online advertising formats and learn the impact ecommerce is having on the high-street.”

https://www.hosterstats.com: “HosterStats.com provides a searchable historical DNS database for over 240 Million active and deleted domains in the .com .net .org .biz .info .mobi .asia .ie .eu .de .co.uk Top Level Domains. HosterStats.com also tracks the domain statistics for over 3 Million hosters based on their nameservers. The historical coverage of domain tracking and hoster statistics stretches back to 2000.”

https://www.coolinfographics.com/: You might think an infographic is an odd place to pull data from, however, good ones always source their data which means you can either quote it as is (plus reference the source) or follow the link to the source.

https://www.comscoredatamine.com/: “The comScore Data Mine is our way of bringing more insights to you by regularly publishing new “data gems,” which are colorful, bite-sized graphical representations of the best discoveries we unearth from our data.”
