The 10 most popular Heart Internet blog posts of all time | Heart Internet Blog – Focusing on all aspects of the web

Since we launched our blog in 2005 we have published over 3,000 stories, an average of nearly one per day. As part of our 10th Birthday we are looking back on our most popular blog posts of all time, as judged by how many times the page has been viewed.

The top 10 really highlights how diverse our content has been over the years and how we focus on trying to provide our readers with useful ideas, tips, resources and links.

Let’s get started…

10.

In at number 10 is our blog post looking at modern ways of presenting information about yourself card with 7 digital alternatives to physical business cards.

“Check out these alternatives: digital business cards that you can update whenever you have new details or need a fresh look, and ways to store your contacts’ information without storing (or losing) their cards.”

9.

This is followed by a round-up of free Olympic design resources. A lot of these are not restriced to London 2012 and are really useful for any sporting occassion.

“Whether you’re adding a button or two to an existing website, or creating a completely Olympics-themed website from the ground up, these resources will make your job easier. We’ve listed medals, trophies, ribbons and lots more for you to choose from.”

8.

Our eighth most read blog post is a classic from 2010, showing you 6 easy, free and attractive ways to display photos on the web.

“Whether you want to set up a full-blown gallery or simply display a few holiday photos, there are numerous free ways to showcase your images on your website. Here are our top picks.”

7.

In the same year turned one of our HostPay web hosting themes in to a free to download and use CSS/HTML template. It proved to be very popular.

“We have converted one of our HostPay themes in to a CSS/ HTML template free for everyone to download, Heart Internet customer or not. It is 100% free, you can make any changes you want to it and you can use it for any type of website you see fit, personal or commercial.”

6.

5.

Join the thousands who have already taken inspiration from our round up of 21 examples of beautiful forms.

“When it comes to contact and comment forms, many of us use only minimal styling, choosing to focus our efforts on the rest of our design instead. But an attractive contact form not only demands attention but displays your attention to detail – particularly important if you’re a freelancer or creative agency.”

4.

Another resource round-up to help you with your web design, in July 2012 we listed 51 free high quality vintage and retro design resources.

“Vintage and retro styles have been popular for a long time now, and they’re a great way to make your designs stand out. Whether you’re looking to create a ‘50s American diner feel or you’re opting for a classic Victorian look, these free PSDs, vectors, fonts, brushes, badges, email templates and other design elements can help you do just that.”

3.

Slipping in to the top 3 is our post from way back in 2012 looking at WordPress’ shift from blog software to a full blown CMS, showcasing what can now be considered the early pioneers.

“One of the patterns we have seen has been the increasing use of WordPress as much more than just a blog and even beyond just a simple CMS. The sites below are great examples of how WordPress can be used imaginatively to create something new and original.”

2.

Just missing out on the top spot, but no less useful for it, are our tips and examples for creating amazing about me/us pages.

“You only get one chance to make a first impression, and your About Us or About Me page says a lot about how you approach your work and present yourself. Visitors will often check out your About page first – particularly if it has a prominent link or your website is quite small – so take the opportunity to make the most of it. It also gives you a chance to keep visitors on your website; don’t make them go to Twitter or another social network to find out more about you.”

And now we arrive at the winner…

The most read blog post we have published (so far!) is 25 of the best free ecommerce templates.

“A good ecommerce template can be hard to find, so we’ve done the hard work for you and found some of the best free templates available on the web for WordPress, Magento, OpenCart, Prestashop and Zen Cart.

As well as all the ecommerce one-click installs we offer, we have plenty of free apps covering everything from invoicing to content management.”

This post still generates lots of traffic to our blog, thanks largely to a lot of incoming links which have helped to put us on the first page of Google for terms such as “ecommerce templates” and “free ecommerce templates”.
