post is a bit misleading initially i though great heart has finally sorted this transfer fees issue out.
But unfortunatelyNOTstill charging for all other than .uk : Using an image which depicts all extensions such as .me .com etc w and the post title: Transfer your domain names for free! IMPLIES ALL ARE FREE!
Come on heart sort it out, ultimately you would gain a lot more domain name transfer and renewals as a result, there’s no point in saying all other domain registrars charge a fee also – why not be the first to provide this without fee. you would soon see a higher transfer/ renewal rate to Heart and people would stay with Heart andwouldn’t transfer away to another registrar as they would still be charging a fee to do so.therefore a lifetime of renewals for heart Internet, Makes perfect business sense.
alternatively you could have a similar situation to the .com provide a free year on transfer but still charge the transfer fee.
Darren,
The .UK domains are free to transfer in because we aren’t charged to do it by Nominet. The gTLDs (which .com is a part of ) do have a fee for us to transfer in, which is in fact currently more than we charge our customers.
I’d also point out that our £5 charge is significantly cheaper than other web hosts and we also add an extra year to the registration. If you bought a .com for a year it would cost you £8.49 with us (much more with others), so you are saving £3.49 for that year as well.
Matt
hi matt
thanks for your reply although i wasn’t referring to .com domain namesas i have already given heart credit for the way you transfer those, i am referring to others such as .mewhich you charge £19.99 for with no extra renewal period.
I still think heart could gain a lot more domain business by absorbing the transfer costs initially as an incentive to transfer to heart internet, after they have transferred, customers would then stay with heart and renew year on yearas it would cost them to transfer away to another registrar as they all charge.oh well just a thought but i think heart could benefit from it.
