eXtend: New file manager launched | Heart Internet Blog – Focusing on all aspects of the web

We are always looking for feedback from our customers about how we can improve our web hosting. Based on this feedback, we have just put live a brand new file manager in eXtend. The first thing you will notice is how much more attractive it looks compared to the previous version. On top of this, you’ll also be able to navigate around the features more quickly and intuitively.

This new file manager is now available for our Starter Pro, Home Pro and Business Pro web hosting customers. If you are a reseller hosting customer, the new file manager is now part of your customer’s eXtend control panel. Click here to log-in to your Heart Internet customer control panel.

A quick summary of the improvements:

– Drag and drop interface.

– Queue multiple uploads.

– Visible permissions, along with warning indicator when the user has set permissions that we do not allow.

– Ability to work with multiple files at the same time (e.g. move 10 files at once with shift+select).

– All functionality available via right-click and via menu at the top – to allow for better working in mobile browsers.

– Better navigation.

– Better handling of archives.

The new eXtend file manager (as seen through a reseller’s eXtend control panel):

From here you can see your file names, the file’s size, the file type (HTML, PHP etc.), the date it was last modified and the permissions. You can also drag and drop files in to folders, speeding up your file management.

The new GUI at the top gives you access to all your file management options including uploading files, creating new folders, copying and moving files, renaming files and changing a file’s chmod command.

Right clicking on a file brings up a short cut menu…

And the option to edit the file in a ‘Rich editor’

Please note: The previous file manager has not been completely removed, and visitors using old browsers will continue to see the old version of the file manager.
