A Sender Policy Framework (SPF) record is a way for receiving email exchanges to check that any mail that comes from your domain name is being sent from a host authorised to send that mail. This helps cut down on spam that appears to come from your site but doesn’t.
You can create an SPF Record using the following service: https://www.spfwizard.net/
To upload your SPF Record:
- Log into your Domain Control Panel
- Click ‘DNS Management’
- Under ‘TXT Records’, copy the SPF Record you were given into the field under the ‘Text’ column
- Click ‘Update DNS’
- You have now created your SPF Record on your site
Please remember that it may take up to 24 hours for your DNS changes to become active.
If you are on our shared hosting platform, you will also need to add in the extendcp.co.uk domain name in order for your emails to go out appropriately.
And you will need to adjust the SPF record to match the servers you are using to send the email.
Any SPF record which includes a Heart Internet service should use:
include:secureserver.net
If you use email clients, including our Webmail, you need to use:
exists:%{i}.mta.spf.extendcp.co.uk
If you use our web servers to send email, you need to use:
exists:%{i}.web.spf.extendcp.co.uk
And if you use our Exchange servers to send email, you need to use:
exists:%{i}.exch.spf.extendcp.co.uk
When you create your SPF record, start with:
v=spf1
Enter in the correct information for the servers you will use.
Then add:
-all
As an example, if you are sending emails through our mail servers and automatically through our web servers, your SPF record would be:
v=spf1 include:secureserver.net exists:%{i}.mta.spf.extendcp.co.uk exists:%{i}.web.spf.extendcp.co.uk -all
Paste your record in as a TXT Record in your DNS Management page.
If you are using our Exchange service, we recommend that the following SPF record is used:
v=spf1 include:secureserver.net exists:%{i}.mta.spf.extendcp.co.uk exists:%{i}.web.spf.extendcp.co.uk exists:%{i}.exch.spf.extendcp.co.uk -all "
If you are using our Mailing List tool within the eXtend Control Panel the following SPF record will be required:
v=spf1 include:secureserver.net exists:%{i}.mta.spf.extendcp.co.uk exists:%{i}.web.spf.extendcp.co.uk a:maillists.extendcp.co.uk -all
You can combine the above SPF records depending on which services you are making use of.
