If you want to use your server as a nameserver, you can set this up in Plesk.
It is assumed that you are using Plesk as a Service Provider. If you are using Plesk as a Power User, switch to Service Provider:
- Go to the 'Server' tab
- Go to 'Interface Management'
- Go to 'Panel Appearance'
- Click 'Service Provider'
- Click 'OK'
- You will now be in Service Provider mode
To create nameservers on your server:
- Click 'Tools & Settings' under 'Server Management' in the left-hand menu
- Click 'DNS Template Settings' under 'General Settings'
- Click 'Add DNS Record'
- Add the following records:
Record type: ns
Domain name: your-domain.co.uk
Name server: ns1.your-domain.co.uk
Record type: ns
Domain name: your-domain.co.uk
Name server: ns2.your-domain.co.uk
Record type: A
Domain name: ns1.your-domain.co.uk
IP address: [Your IP address]
Record type: A
Domain name: ns2.your-domain.co.uk
IP address: [Your IP address]
- After creating a record, a notification will appear asking to apply the changes to existing domain names on the server – click to do so
- Your server is now set up as a nameserver
You will now need to register your nameservers for your domain name. If your domain name is a .com or other gTLD, you will need to raise a Support Ticket with the Customer Services team, as it involves creating Glue Records.
If your domain name is a .uk name:
- Ensure that your A records are set up to point to the IP address of your server
- Wait 24 hours to ensure they have propagated through the Internet
- Log into the Domain Control Panel for your domain name
- Change the nameservers for your domain name to the ns1 and ns2 nameservers you set up on your server
- The nameservers will now be valid
If your domain name is provided by a different registrar, you will need to contact them to ask about registering your nameservers.
