How can I password-protect a directory using Plesk?

Plesk has the built-in feature to password-protect directories.

It is assumed that you are using Plesk as a Service Provider.  If you are using Plesk as a Power User, switch to Service Provider:

  1. Go to the 'Server' tab
  2. Go to 'Interface Management'
  3. Go to 'Panel Appearance'
  4. Click 'Service Provider'
  5. Click 'OK'
  6. You will now be in Service Provider mode

To password-protect a directory:

  1. Click 'Domains'
  2. Click 'Control Panel' for the domain you want to set up a password-protected directory in
  3. Click 'Websites & Domains'
  4. Click 'Show Advanced Operations'
  5. Click 'Password-Protected Directories'
  6. Click 'Add Protected Directory'
  7. Enter the name, location and title of the directory you want to protect
  8. Click 'OK'
  9. Click on the folder
  10. Click 'Add New User'
  11. Enter in the username for the user
  12. Enter in the password
  13. Enter in the password again
  14. Click 'OK'
  15. The directory is now password-protected
