We no longer support FrontPage Extensions on our Linux server.
In 2006, the Microsoft FrontPage 2002 Server Extensions for UNIX were determined to be ‘End-of-Life’, meaning that the more recent versions of Apache – the web server operating system we use – would not run the extensions.
Our customers would benefit more from the security and feature enhancements available in the latest versions of Apache than they would from FrontPage Extensions, and we decided to upgrade our servers.
FrontPage does have built-in FTP publishing tools, and you should use those when publishing your website.
To use the built-in FTP publishing tools, you must disable your FrontPage Extensions:
- Go to Tools
- Select Page Options
- Select the Authoring tab
- Under ‘FrontPage and SharePoint Technologies’, uncheck ‘Browse-Time Web Components’
- Click OK
Once the extensions are disabled, you can create a site in FrontPage:
- Create a new folder called public_html
- Except for the _private and Images folders, copy all files and folders you want to publish and place them into the public_html folder
- This is now the directory for your website
You then must unlock FTP access before you can upload your new site.
- Log into your eXtend Control Panel
- In ‘Unlock FTP’, select the time range you want to unlock FTP for
- Click ‘Unlock’
- Wait 10-30 seconds, and FTP will be available
- Note the login name and password given for FTP access
Once FTP access is unlocked, you can set up an FTP connection in FrontPage:
- Go to File
- Select Publish Site
- Open Remote Website Properties
- Select FTP
- Under ‘Remote Website Location’, click Browse
- Find your website’s folder and double-click to open it
- Click Open Site
- The path is now highlighted
- Replace the highlighted path with ftp://ftp.your-domain.com/ where your-domain.com is replaced with your domain name
- Check ‘Use Passive FTP’
- Click OK
- In the login box, put your login name and password
- Next to ‘Publish All Changed Pages’, ensure that ‘Local To Remote’ is selected
- Click ‘Publish Web Site’
- When asked if you want to delete files on your existing site, click No To All
- Your site will now publish to the web through FrontPage
When you are finished uploading to your site, log back into your eXtend Control Panel to lock FTP.
