Can I use my own SMTP server?

You can use a third-party SMTP server to send email from your domain instead of using our SMTP server.

This may be useful if you use a third-party email service or SMTP provider to send emails from your domain.

Configuring your mail client

To use a third-party SMTP server, enter the SMTP server details provided by your email or SMTP service provider in your email application.

Your provider will normally provide the following information:

• SMTP server: The server address provided by your SMTP provider.
• Port: The SMTP port
• Security: The SSL/TLS or STARTTLS setting recommended by your provider.
• Username: The username provided.
• Password: The password or authentication credentials.

If you use our SMTP service, use the following settings:

• Outgoing Mail Server: mta.extendcp.co.uk
• Outgoing Mail Server Port: 587
• Outgoing Mail Server SSL: STARTTLS

SPF Records

If you use our email service to send email from your domain, you should add the SPF record to your domain’s DNS settings.

Our SPF record is: v=spf1 include:soverin.net exists:%{i}.mta.spf.extendcp.co.uk exists:%{i}.web.spf.extendcp.co.uk -all

SPF (Sender Policy Framework) specifies which mail servers are authorised to send email on behalf of your domain. An SPF record will help receiving email servers identify legitimate messages sent from your domain.

If you use a third-party SMTP service, your provider may require you to add their authorised sending servers to your SPF record. Follow the instructions provided by your SMTP provider.

Do not create a second SPF record for your domain. If you already have an SPF record, you should update the existing record rather than creating another one. A domain should have only one SPF record, and multiple records can cause SPF validation to fail.

DKIM

Our email service supports DKIM (DomainKeys Identified Mail). DKIM adds a digital signature to outgoing messages to help receiving mail servers verify that the messages were sent by an authorised mail service.

To use DKIM with our email service, add the following DNS records:

If you use a third-party SMTP provider, follow their instructions for configuring DKIM. Their DKIM records may be different from those used by our email service.
