How do I cancel my domain name or stop it from renewing?

Your domain name will remain active for the full duration you have registered it for.  However, you can set your domain name to cancel when it comes up for renewal.

To set your domain name to cancel:

  1. Log into your Heart Internet Customer Area
  2. Click ‘Manage Domain Names’
  3. Click the link for ‘List Your Domains’
  4. Click ‘Manage’ for the domain name you wish to cancel
  5. Click ‘Renewal’
  6. Click ‘Change to cancel’
  7. The domain will now cancel when it reaches its expiry date

You can set your domain name to cancel at any time, but it will only actually cancel on the expiration date. To prevent the domain from renewing, and to not be charged, the domain should be set to cancel a few days before it's due to renew, as some domains will renew early.

The only except to this are UK domain names, such as .co.uk, .uk, or .org.uk. These can be cancelled via Nominet.

To cancel your .uk domain name:

  1. Go to http://www.nominet.org.uk/uk-domain-names/manage-your-domain/cancel
  2. Create or log into your Online Services account at Nominet
  3. Select ‘Cancel Domains’
  4. Follow the process to cancel your domain name
