How do I create a subdomain on my site?

A subdomain allows you to have a new web address for separate areas of your site, such as support.your-domain.com or jane.your-domain.com.  Each subdomain points to a separate directory in your public_html.

To create a subdomain:

  1. Log into your eXtend Control Panel
  2. Click ‘Sub Domains’ under ‘Web Tools’
  3. Enter in the subdomain name and select the main domain name
  4. Enter in which directory the subdomain should point to
  5. Click ‘Create’
  6. The subdomain will be created

Subdomains set up within your existing account will take approximately 30 to 60 minutes to begin working as expected. You can edit or delete a subdomain at any time.

Through DNS management, you can also set up a subdomain to point to a specific IP address, much like how ftp.your-domain.com and mail.your-domain.com are set up.

To point a subdomain to an IP address:

  1. Log into your Domain Control Panel
  2. Click ‘DNS Management’
  3. Under ‘Create New A/AAAA/CNAME records’, enter in the subdomain (without the .your-domain.com attached) and the IP address it should point to
  4. Click ‘Update DNS’
  5. The subdomain will now point to that IP address

Due to DNS propagation, pointing your subdomain to an IP address will take approximately 24 hours to work as expected.
