How do I point a domain name to my virtual server?

You can point any domain name to your VPS, regardless of whether it is registered with Heart Internet or with a third-party registrar.

Step 1: Identify Your Server

First, determine which type of virtual server you have:

• Managed Dedicated Server
• VPS & Hybrid Server
• Fully Managed VPS

Navigate to the relevant server management page and make a note of the server’s Primary IP Address, as this will be used for your DNS records.

Step 2: Update Your DNS Records

• If your domain is registered with Heart Internet
• Log in to your Heart Internet account
• Navigate to Domain Management
• Select your domain from the drop-down list and click Manage.
• Select Manage DNS.

Add or update the following A records:

Record Type: A
Host: leave blank
Value: Primary VPS IP Address

Record Type: A
Host: *
Value: Primary VPS IP Address

Record Type: A
Host: www
Value: Primary VPS IP Address

Record Type: A
Host: mail
Value: Primary VPS IP Address

If your domain is registered with another provider

Log in to your domain registrar’s DNS management portal and create or update the following A records:

Record Type: A
Host: @/blank (depending on your registrar)
Value: Primary VPS IP Address

Record Type: A
Host: www
Value: Primary VPS IP Address

Record Type: A
Host: *
Value: Primary VPS IP Address

Record Type: A
Host: mail
Value: Primary VPS IP Address

Note: Different domain registrars may use @ or a blank value to represent the root domain.

Step 3: Allow Time for DNS Propagation

After saving the DNS changes, allow time for them to propagate across the internet. While many changes are visible within a few hours, full DNS propagation can take up to 24–48 hours.

Once propagation is complete, your domain will resolve to your VPS using the configured IP address.
