How do I transfer a gTLD (.com, .net, .org, .biz, etc) domain to you?

Before you begin the transfer of your domain name, you must make certain that the current contact email address for the domain name is valid, and the person who receives email at that address knows they must respond to emails about the transfer.

The domain name must also be unlocked with the current registrar.

You will also have a choice to keep the nameservers as they are with your current registrar.  If your hosting is with another company and you want to keep the hosting where it is, then check the check box next to ‘Leave nameservers unchanged?’

To start the domain transfer:

  1. Log into your Customer Area
  2. Click ‘Transfer a Domain’
  3. Enter in the domain name you want to transfer
  4. Check whether or not you want to keep the nameservers as they are
  5. Click ‘Start Transfer’
  6. If the domain name is unlocked, the process will begin
  7. Check out with the domain transfers
  8. The contact email will receive a message with instructions on how to confirm the transfer

You may also receive another email from your current registrar.  If you do, you should read this very carefully as it may contain instructions for you to authorise the transfer away from them.

Once the transfer is confirmed, it may take up to seven days for the transfer to complete.
