Nameserver ownership checks for domain references

When you add a domain reference, our system checks that the domain is using third-party nameservers. This confirms that you own and control the domain before you transfer DNS management to us.

For this reason, you should always add the domain reference before changing the domain’s nameservers to ours.

If you change the nameservers to ours before adding the domain reference, you won’t be able to change the domain’s DNS settings after the domain reference has been added.

If you’ve already changed the nameservers to ours, follow these steps:

  • Change the nameservers to those provided by a third-party DNS provider.
  • Wait up to 24 hours for the changes to fully propagate.
  • Remove the domain reference.
  • Add the domain reference again.

Change the nameservers back to one of the following:

ns.mainnameserver.com
ns2.mainnameserver.com

or

ns.heartinternet.uk
ns2.heartinternet.uk
