A Domain Reference allows you to keep your domain name with your current provider while still using Heart Internet for the hosting. This is extremely useful if you cannot transfer the domain, if you are providing hosting for clients who wish to keep control of their domain names, or if you want to prepare your web site before transferring the domain name over to Heart Internet.
To set up a Domain Reference:
- Log into your Heart Internet Customer Area
- Click ‘Manage Domain Names’
- Click the link at ‘Web Hosting Domain References’
- Enter in the name under ‘Add a new Domain Reference’, leaving out the www.
- Click ‘Add Reference’
- You have now created a Domain Reference you can add hosting to
Once you have attached hosting to your Domain Reference, you will need to change the domain’s nameservers over to Heart Internet’s nameservers:
- Log into your domain name host
- Change the nameservers to:
ns.mainnameserver.com
ns2.mainnameserver.com
